Produce

Barn 12 is actively developing and producing its own original properties as well as collaborating with partners on scripted and unscripted feature and television content. We selectively work with Canadian and international creators and partners to create world class content for multiple platforms, taking advantage of domestic and international co-production financing strategies.

 

Barn 12 attends a number of international film and television festivals and markets annually, including Berlin, Cannes, Hot Docs, Sunnyside of the Doc, TIFF, AFM and IDFA.

Executive Produce

With our wide range of experience and contacts, Barn 12 can get involved at any stage of production on projects that demonstrate creative and commercial merit.  Areas of expertise to help you get your production made include financing, business and legal, co-production, packaging, script development and polishing, marketing strategies, and international sales.  We love working with young, passionate creators and established professionals as well as international partners. We offer services ranging from consultation to hands-on partnering tailored to the needs of the project. 

Manage

Barn 12 can draw on James Weyman’s project management expertise to develop and deliver a range of business development programs, projects and live events.

 

Past examples of work include:

OMDC Film Fund – created and delivered results-based feature film financing fund for the Ontario government that invested in over $500 million of production including Oscar-winning “Room” by Lenny Abrahamson; and other award-winning titles including "The Breadwinner" by Nora Twomey, “Born to Be Blue” by Robert Budreau, “Into the  Forest” by Patricia Rozema, “Mean Dreams” by Nathan Morlando, and “ League of Exotique Dancers “ by Rama Rau.

 

International Financing Forum (IFF) – created and managed annual co-financing event at the Toronto International Film Festival that has launched over 75 successfully financed feature films into the marketplace.

 

Trillium Book Award - revitalized this award for literary excellence in Ontario, showcasing the best books of the year in an annual public reading and invitation-only rewards gala event.  Increased public awareness, book sales and generated millions of media impressions. Now in its 30th year!   Winners include Alice Munro, Barbara Gowdy, Ian Brown, Thomas King, Wayson Choy, Hannah Moscovitch.

 

Producers Lab Toronto - created and delivered an annual co-production and networking forum during the Toronto International Film Festival, in partnership with European Film  Promotion, Telefilm and UK Trade and Investment, with over 150 international alumni.

 

Music Makes It – created this annual event bringing the Ontario music, film, TV and digital communities together to find common creative and business interests. Now in its tenth year!

Innovation and Collaboration Fund - developed and delivered a pilot initiative that brought creative entrepreneurs together to incubate new business development projects tapping into digital platforms and marketing strategies. Peer and professional mentoring, idea hot housing, targeted development funding, and a "Dragon's Den" style financing competition led to investment in 12 projects to support new lines of business for companies in the Ontario creative industries.
